EXAKT 80E - Pharmacy Mills


The EXAKT 80E combines the reliability of the EXAKT 80 with state-of-the-art control and programming. The EXAKT 80E was specifically designed for extraordinary precision and control of particle dispersion. A unique, feature-rich, electronically controlled three roll mill that brings impressive new levels of operation and flexibility. The highly sophisticated control features normally found only on the most up-to-date production mills can now be used in pharmacies where greater efficiencies are required. The remarkable new EXAKT 80E offers exceptional operational flexibility as well as providing outstanding reliability and repeatability. The EXAKT 80E meets or exceeds the safety requirements specified in ANSI, and it is operator-friendly.

Unique Features

Unique Dual Mode Gap Control

  • The EXAKT 80E allows you to control the gap between the rollers (and thus the dispersion qualities) in two modes:
  1. Gap mode – A quantitative setting to a specific gap value (in microns)
  2. Force mode – A quantitative setting to a specific line pressure in the gap (in Newtons/mm)
  • The gaps are continuously monitored and adjusted by the control system to maintain the pre-set value which also provides continuous and automatic roller alignment.
  • The gaps can be independently set to simultaneously operate in either mode with independent monitoring and control in the mode selected.
  • The operator can change the mode of gap control during operation.
  • The unique calibration system adjusts the rollers prior to startup.
  • Gap size is controlled and rollers are kept parallel, ensuring optimal reproducibility.
  • Force sensors on the outer edges of the roller axes, coupled with finely calibrated motors, ensure that roller alignment remains constant.

Programmability and Scale-up

The electronic control package has several levels of features:

  • Operational parameters can be stored in 99 discreet programs including sub-programs for products requiring multiple process runs
  • Parameters that can be set are roller speed and gap settings (in either mode)
  • The control system will default to last program run on the mill when the main power supply is turned on.
  • RS 232/USB interface capability providing Data Logging (optional) and more.
  • The operator control panel provides real-time operational displays in both operating modes that translate to larger volume production conditions (scale-up). In gap mode setting, the user-defined gap setting and the actual force value are displayed. In force mode the user-defined force value and both the actual (corresponding) gap and force values are displayed

Safety Features

For operational, legal and economic reasons, comprehensive accident prevention is a core issue.

Features such as an emergency-stop push button, stainless steel hopper with hand guard, drip tray with hand guard and security switch, secured scraper socket, electronic brake, and many more are available on the larger models. See individual details by model for complete safety features.

All electronically controlled models (E-models) meet or exceed the safety requirements specified in ANSI and come with extensive safety equipment as standard. The E-Series models include new levels of safety with features such as a cleaning mode, reverse roller direction, and additional safety stops as options. Refer to the E-Series Safety Features and Supplementary Safety Kit for 80E for details.

Also Available on E-Series Models – An additional stop using two antenna type off switches and a nip guard.

Supplementary Safety Kit for 80E

For increased safety requirements, EXAKT offers the Safety Kit for the EXAKT 80E. The main switch, machine start and reverse operation are lockable. The machine remains in operation, but does not start. In addition, safety staff can control keys. The hopper, cleaning guard, drip tray, nip guard for reverse, and modified nip guard for production are part of a safety circuit. Only when all elements are correctly installed and the safety circuit is completed can the machine be started. As an additional safety feature, in cleaning mode, the rotation of the rollers is also reduced to 60 rpm.
